Following Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent displacement of the LSU School of Dentistry, the Community Clinic came to the aid of the School by helping place senior dental students with dentists who volunteer with the Community Clinic. This collaboration provided patients for the students, thus enabling them to complete their clinical education and graduate.

The initial Preceptor Program was so successful that it has been repeated each year since that time. The experience was so beneficial to the students that the School of Dentistry will be offering the same program to incoming senior students as an elective and the School has decided to make Baton Rouge one
of its rotating classes.

The Community Clinic also conducts dental screenings which serve as an additional aid to the Dental School while at the same time treat Community Clinic patients. Partnering and utilizing the offices of Community Clinic dentists, patients are screened and treated for specific problems which are needed by students to take their board examinations.

The Community Clinic looks forward to recruiting these future dentists as participating providers!
